From the Dept. of Friends Selling the Books of Friends

I just got a package in the mail that made me smile. Matt Gallagher -- American Hero, Champion Foosballer, and author of a legendary blog written while soldiering in Iraq -- has written a book based on his experiences, and the advance copy just hit my desk. I will read it as soon as I am finished with Deb Amos's elegant new book, about which I will also have more to say soon.

Update: My job rules. The historian William Hitchcock just sent me a copy of his latest book. Out of the blue. Just stone cold landed on my desk.

The release of this book cannot come soon enough for me. Looking forward to see what you think of it.

I really must thank you for the link to the Kaboom blog. We are milk kin forever habibbi, unless someone pays me more, then I keel yuuu. But only for the baksheesh....

I hope you're finding copies of Club International and Barely Legal stone cold out of the blue on your desk too, unlike many of us not so lucky chumps.

The troops in Afghanistan are in dire need of some spank mags, instead they're getting Girl Scout cookies and paperback copies of the fucking Bible.

Mr. Exum, you have the power to influence Americans into sending much needed--realistic, practical-- care packages to our troops in the field. Please use your new found power to write a policy memo, some kinda white paper, a CNAS video to the policy makers, convincing them to place current issues of adult magazines within MREs for our troops.

We have the watches, They have the time. If we're gonna wait it out here for some miracle, atleast send us some spank mags, for chrissakes!!!

@Dirk,

If you go to think tankers for spank mags they will likely send you a copy of the QDR (Queer Defense Review) or .pdf's Attic Greek translations on ancient Greek practices...and not the ones you want...

Let me help...

So, how's that PC-COIN thing going?

Looks like someone sabotaged Capt. G's amazon page.

I won't waste your time with a rundown of what "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is about. With over 400 reviews on Amazon, with over 15 million copies sold, and with a very self-explanatory title, I think you all get it. For the rare person who may not know what this book is about, here's a succinct description: in 1930s vernacular prose, Dale Carnegie explains that by appealing to the other person's highest ideals, remembering the other person's name, letting the other person do most of the talking, speaking in terms of the other person's interests, testking a+ allowing the other to save face, by "throwing down a challenge," etc., you can make a friend out of just about anyone. The advice is largely sound, but I think the reader should keep in mind the context within which this book was written. "How to Win Friends and Influence People" was written in the 1930's and intended primarily as a companion book to Dale Carnegie's classes on how to be a good salesman. In other words, ccie these techniques work very well in the context of sales and public relations, i.e., in relationships that are not expected to be deep and/or long-lasting. I wouldn't recommend using these techniques on close personal friends. Doing so may make a person come across as a bit "plastic."

hello,
its goot to see the nice post..its really good
