Wesley G. Bush, Chairman, CEO and President of Northrop Grumman Corp., discussed federal R&D spending and the future of the defense-industrial base. Following his remarks, there was a panel discussion with Frank Kendall, Under Secretary of Defense, Dr. Hunter Rawlings, president of the Association of American Universities, and Dr. Brian Fitzgerald, chief executive officer at the Business-Higher Education Forum. The panel was moderated by Michèle Flournoy, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors at CNAS.
The panel addressed:
- How industry, academia and government can be more effective in working together;
- How to develop joint federal agency/industry S&T roadmaps; and
- Gaps in federal R&D and opportunities for industry investment in independent research and development.
