Please join CNAS for an upcoming virtual event featuring a conversation with President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Mr. Bafel Talabani on October 25th, 2023, from 10:00am to 11:00am ET, hosted by Jonathan Lord, Senior Fellow and Director of the Middle East Security Program at CNAS. Mr. Talabani, who is visiting Washington, D.C. for the first time since assuming the presidency of the PUK, will speak about the Iraqi Kurdistan region (IKR), the relationship between the Kurdistan Regional Government and federal Government of Iraq, and Iraq’s future in a more-integrated Middle East.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is second-largest political party in the Iraqi Kurdistan region. PUK members hold senior roles within the Kurdistan Regional Government, including that of deputy prime minister.
