Virtual Event | Private Roundtable on U.S.-Japan Economic Security Cooperation

On March 11, the Center for a New American Security’s Energy, Economics, and Security program hosted a virtual private roundtable on “U.S.-Japan Economic Security Cooperation.” Participants from both the United States and Tokyo assessed opportunities and obstacles to deepening bilateral efforts in areas such as supply chain resiliency, export controls, investment security, countering China’s overcapacity and economic coercion, and coordinating support for economic security initiatives in the Global South. Participants identified many areas for potential cooperation, while also noting that broader trade tensions between the two countries could undermine such cooperation.
