Virtual Event: The UK Defence Budget and the Future of the British Armed Forces

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced plans to increase the British defence budget by £24.1 billion over the next four years. The plan would result in higher total defence spending than any other European country and make the United Kingdom the second-largest spender in NATO behind the United States. The multi-year settlement signals the U.K. government's ambition not only to maintain their leading role at NATO but to add military muscle to Boris Johnson’s vision for a Global Britain.

To discuss this development and what it will mean for the British armed forces as well as how it relates to the upcoming Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development, CNAS Adjunct Senior Fellow Jim Townsend will moderate a discussion featuring Angus Lapsley, Director General Strategy and International at the U.K. Ministry of Defence, with opening remarks from H.E. Karen Pierce, British Ambassador to the United States.
