On March 29, 2022, the Military, Veterans, and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) held its fourth annual women’s veteran panel. The event featured four women veterans with a variety of life experiences, opinions, and perspectives. The panel discussion was moderated by Hope Hodge Seck, a freelance journalist and 2020 CNAS Next Generational National Security Fellow and hosted by CNAS Research Associate Nathalie Grogan. Opening remarks were provided by Lourdes Tiglao, Director of the VA Center for Women Veterans.
The featured authors included:
- Andrea Goldstein, a Navy veteran and award-winning writer. Her works include Invisible Veterans, Why We Write, and Winning Westeros.
- Marissa Lemar a Navy reservist and freelance writer. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post, War on the Rocks, and Task & Purpose.
- Margaret Mullins, an Army veteran and the National Security Advisor to U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA). She is a 2022 CNAS Next Generation National Security Fellow.
- Julia Maki Pyrah, a Navy veteran, Air National Guardsman, and author. Her works include My Mom Hunts Submarines, All Hands on Deck, and Guardians.
