On March 19, 2020, the CNAS Military, Veterans, and Society Program hosted a virtual panel discussion featuring four recently published women veteran authors on their experiences and opinions.
Ryan Leigh Dostie, author of Formation: a woman's memoir of stepping out of line; Mary Doyle, author of numerous volumes featuring women who wear combat boots; Kyleanne Hunter, co-editor of Invisible Veterans; and Kaylah Jackson, journalist with ConnectingVets, joined Kayla M. Williams, Director of the CNAS Military, Veterans, and Society Program, to discuss women's experiences in the military and as veterans.
The authors' discussion spanned a variety of topics, including military progress on integrating women into previously closed combat arms jobs and units; how women's experiences reintegrating into civilian life after service may differ from men's; and the ways in which being a woman veteran influences writing and publishing.
