Virtual Panel Discussion: Hispanic Veteran Authors

On September 29, 2021, the Military, Veterans, and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) held an Hispanic Veteran Author Panel in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The event was part of the Elevating Diverse Voices Initiative. The panel discussion was moderated by Senior Fellow and Program Director Kate Kuzminski.
Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) delivered keynote remarks at the launch of the panel discussion. Rep. Gallego served in the Marine Corps and deployed to Iraq. He currently sits on the House Armed Services Committee.
The featured authors included:
- Maximilian Uriarte, a Marine Corps veteran, author, and filmmaker. He is the creator of the hit webcomic Terminal Lance and the author of the New York Times bestsellers The White Donkey and Battle Born.
- Ruthy Muñoz, an Army veteran and freelance journalist. She has published her work in The War Horse and Reuters.
- Maritza Rivera, an Army veteran and poet. She is the author of About You, A Mother’s War, and Baker’s Dozen.
