Communication networks are the central nervous system of the 21st century economy. The fifth generation of wireless—5G—will be essential to and inseparable from all we do. The United States has the opportunity to regain momentum in 5G by promoting an alternative approach that could lead to a paradigm shift in the industry: wireless infrastructure built on a modular architecture with open interfaces.
On Thursday, August 27, 2020, the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) hosted a virtual discussion for the new report: “Open Future: The Way Forward on 5G” by Martijn Rasser and Ainikki Riikonen. This report is part of the Center’s Securing Our 5G Future initiative which explores the opportunities and challenges of 5G and offers actionable recommendations for U.S. policymakers.
