Alexandra Seymour

Former Associate Fellow, Technology and National Security Program

Alexandra Seymour was an Associate Fellow for the Technology and National Security Program at CNAS. Her work focuses on artificial intelligence, defense innovation, semiconductors, 5G/6G, standards, and workforce issues. Previously, Seymour worked at the AI security and validation startup CalypsoAI, first as chief of staff and then as public policy manager. Prior to her time at CalypsoAI, Seymour served in the federal government. While at the U.S. Department of Defense, she served as the speechwriter to the deputy secretary of defense and as senior advisor to the deputy assistant secretary of defense for counternarcotics and global threats. In the latter role, she focused on the Defense Department’s counter-threat finance and counter-transnational organized crime policies. During her time in the department, she was awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Achievement.

A communicator at heart, Seymour served on the National Security Council staff in the Office of Strategic Communications. Her previous experience also includes working on Capitol Hill, the Heritage Foundation, and in the private sector supporting U.S. Navy acquisition. She is currently a visiting fellow at the National Security Institute at George Mason University.

Seymour’s analysis and commentary have appeared in outlets such as The Financial Times, USA Today, The Hill, DefenseScoop, The Diplomat, RealClearPolicy, and Voice of America, and her she has made media appearances on CBS News and NewsNation. Originally from New Jersey, Seymour holds a BA in politics from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
