Caroline Steel

Associate Editor

Caroline Steel is the associate editor at the Center for New American Security, where she collaborates with the research, communication, and design teams to develop and optimize the full spectrum of CNAS reports and written products.

Before CNAS, her work in the policy and security spaces includes the Forward Defense initiative of the Atlantic Council, the narrative futurist organization Useful Fiction, the asymmetric operations wing of the American Security Project, the Maryland Democratic Party, and the Embassy of Kuwait.

Steel earned her BA in international affairs, Arabic, literature, and philosophy across the pond at Durham University, and studied Arabic language and literature in Beirut at the Institut français du Proche-Orient.

Steel is a recovering outdoor guide. In her spare time, you can find her pursuing various flavors of Type II Fun.
