Emma Swislow
Senior Editor
Emma Swislow is the senior editor at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). In this role, she edits and manages written research products from across the Center.
She returns to CNAS from the Department of Defense where she served as the external relations advisor to the assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs.
From 2020–2023, Swislow was an associate editor at CNAS. During this time, she also coordinated the Joseph S. Nye, Jr. National Security Internship and Mentoring Program, curated the Make Room newsletter, and led The Pitch, an annual event that elevates new and emerging voices in the national security field.
Prior to joining CNAS, Swislow interned at Stars and Stripes where she wrote and edited articles about issues and events that impact the military community.
Swislow is from Chicago, Illinois, and graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College with a BA in English and geology. At Amherst, she was the editor in chief of The Amherst Student, the student newspaper on campus.
