Evan Wright

Former Research Assistant, Indo-Pacific Security Program

Evan Wright is a former Research Assistant for the Indo-Pacific Security Program at CNAS. He focuses on U.S.-Indo-Pacific relations, East Asian security, and science and technology policy. He is a Nonresident Fellow at the Johns Hopkins SAIS Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies and a Pacific Forum Young Leader.

Wright has extensive experience in Asia policy, previously working with the U.S. Department of State at Embassy Tokyo and the Office of Japanese Affairs in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs in Washington, D.C. and the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian studies at Johns Hopkins SAIS. Wright was also a Science Policy Fellow with the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), where he conducted research on space policy, artificial intelligence, and other critical and emerging technologies for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and other Federal Government sponsors, such as the Department of Defense.

He received his BA in East Asian studies and minor in intelligence studies from Indiana University with departmental honors and highest distinction (Phi Beta Kappa). Wright’s honors thesis explored the evolution of Japan’s intelligence community and prospects for a “Six Eyes” intelligence sharing alliance between Japan and the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. He is proficient in Japanese.
