Jasmine
M. El-Gamal is the Country Director for Syria and Lebanon at the Office of the
Secretary of Defense for Policy (OSD). Ms. El-Gamal covered Iraqi political issues
for OSD from 2008 to early 2010, focusing on Iraq's regional relations and
refugee issues. Before joining OSD, Ms. El-Gamal was a research fellow at the
Washington Institute for Near East Policy, where she focused on political
reform and democracy in the Middle East.
From
2003 until 2007, Ms. El-Gamal worked as an interpreter and cultural advisor for the
U.S. military. She was embedded with the 82nd Airborne Division when they
crossed into Iraq from Kuwait in March 2003, and later went on to assignments
in Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE.
Ms. El-Gamal
spent a large part of her childhood in Egypt, and has lived and traveled
extensively throughout the Middle East. She holds a B.S. in Marketing
from Clarkson University in New York and an M.S. from Georgetown University's
School of Foreign Service.
