Lieutenant Colonel Joseph I. Grimm is a Commandant of the Marine Corps’ Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) in Washington, D.C.
LtCol Grimm recently completed a two-year assignment as a Deputy Legal Counsel for the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff where he managed the Law of War and International Law portfolios.
A career lawyer, LtCol Grimm has served in a variety of legal billets in the United States and over-seas advising commanders and staffs on international and domestic legal authorities and training Marines on the law of war. His assignments include staff judge advocate, military defense counsel, military prosecutor, legal assistance attorney, and operational law attorney.
LtCol Grimm holds a Master of Laws, International Law, from the University of California Los Angeles; a Juris Doctorate from the West Virginia University; and a Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania State University.
