Master Sergeant MacKay is a Critical Skills Operator (Marine Raider) currently serving as a Defense Fellow in the House of Representatives Washington, DC. He serves as the Military Assistant to the Legislative Director for defense, nuclear, military construction, veteran’s affairs and related issues. Prior to this assignment, he served as Operations Chief and Senior Enlisted Leader for the Commander of the Special Operations Command and Control Element - Sahel and Maghreb.
Michael is a decorated combat veteran with over a decade in Special Operations. He has numerous overseas tours including deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Inherent Resolve. He has traveled to over 30 countries while on deployment, living and interacting with locals. These experiences coupled with his combat knowledge have aided him in leading multi-lateral/ interagency partnerships throughout Europe and Africa.
Michael graduated Suma Cum Laude from Norwich University’s Bachelor of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis program. He is a current graduate student at American University’s School of International Service and the Legislative Studies program at Georgetown University’s Government Affairs Institute. He is originally from New York City and currently resides in Alexandria VA, with his wife, Callie.
