Shannon Vavra is an award-winning National Security Reporter at The Daily Beast, covering the politics and cascading effects of war, including the Israel-Hamas war, Russia's war in Ukraine, and China's growing Taiwan aggression. She also covers global grey-zone operations, such as espionage, sabotage, disinformation, influence, hacking, and transnational repression.
She previously worked at CyberScoop, where she covered the National Security Agency, the Department of Defense’s Cyber Command, cyber-espionage, influence, and information operations. She also worked at Axios as one of the first 25 hires, where she covered breaking news. Shannon has appeared on MSNBC, Fox News, CBSN, France24, and other international news and radio programs.
She attended Tufts University and earned her Bachelor’s in International Relations with a specialty in Europe and the former Soviet Union.
