Executive Assistant and Deputy Director for NextGen Fellowship
Valeria Allende is the executive assistant and deputy director of the NextGen Fellowship at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). In this capacity, Allende manages scheduling for the executive vice president and director of studies. She also helps run the Make Room initiative at CNAS, which aims to empower communities underrepresented in national security, educate the next generation of leaders, and provide a platform to share their expert perspectives.
Prior to joining CNAS, Allende interned for the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism, where she worked on projects like the annual Congressional Country Reports on Terrorism. She also interned for Leaders of Tomorrow—an educational NGO based in Amman, Jordan—and she has interned for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Allende received her master’s degree in U.S. foreign policy and national security from American University and two bachelor’s degrees from the University of California, Riverside, in political science and Middle East studies.
