Biden Orders Deeper Foreign Investment Reviews in Chips, Supply Chains

The addition of clean energy and climate adaptation technology to the list of sensitive sectors reflects the growing importance of energy security -- especially after Russia's invasion of Ukraine -- as well as the Biden administration's view of climate as crucial to national security.

"We know that many of our clean energy supply chains run through China right now, I think people are very concerned about that, and they should be," said Emily Kilcrease, who has worked on CFIUS for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and is now director of the energy, economics and security program at the Center for a New American Security think tank in Washington.
