CNAS Mourns the Passing of Board Member Joe Lieberman

Washington, March 28, 2024—Today, CNAS Chair Michèle Flournoy and Chief Executive Officer Richard Fontaine made the following statement on the passing of Board Member Joe Lieberman:

“We at CNAS are deeply saddened at the passing of Senator Lieberman. Joe was a patriot, a man of courage, and a wonderful person. He served on the Center’s board for over a decade, and we benefitted greatly from his experience, friendship, and grace.

“Joe Lieberman was unique: an individual of historical importance with a keen intellect and a generous heart. He was a mentor, especially to young people, and all of us learned a great deal from him.

“Our thoughts are with the Senator’s family as the nation mourns his passing. Joe Lieberman left a great mark, at CNAS and on the country, and we will miss him very much.”
