How Israel’s Hamas Terror-Sparked War Could Leave Indelible Mark on Entire Middle East

Iranian officials have denied involvement in the attack but also praised it as an act of “anti-Zionist resistance” and President Ebrahim Raisi has spoken with the leaders of the militant groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Iran provides funding and military backing to both groups.

Jonathan Lord, a former Pentagon official now with the Center for a New American Security, told The Messenger that whether or not Iran was directly involved in the planning, “There's no question that Hamas and Islamic Jihad stand on the shoulders of Iran being able to execute an attack of this complexity and magnitude.”
