Iran Nuclear Talks Continue into 'Extra Innings'

Talks to complete a deal limiting Iran's nuclear program were extended on Tuesday for the second time in a week, as negotiators confront a series of thorny issues that have kept the landmark agreement just beyond reach.

The State Department in announcing that the discussions could continue at least until Friday downplayed the importance of deadlines while reiterating the Obama administration's commitment to reaching a solid final deal. But the move was clearly a blow to the hopes of delivering an accord to Congress before Friday, when a review period for a final agreement would automatically be extended. 

Officials optimistically said that negotiations in Vienna went into "extra innings" to take advantage of the momentum garnered in the last nearly two weeks of talks, but they also insisted that continuing the dialogue didn't guarantee a final deal would be struck.
