New tech poised to neutralize Washington’s Huawei problem

Once dismissed as “pie in the sky” by top officials, Open Radio Access Networks are suddenly poised to upend China’s dominance in the global telecom marketplace.
And as Washington searches for a way to permanently scrub Chinese telecom firm Huawei from allied 5G networks, policymakers may be about to bet big on the emerging technology.
The Federal Communications Commission plans to vote next week on opening an in-depth analysis of Open RAN’s rapid progress, and what the FCC and other agencies can do to promote the technology’s deployment at home and abroad.
