Pelosi visit underscores cyber threat to Taiwan

In 2021, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley testified to Congress that China hopes to be militarily capable of taking Taiwan by 2027.
While it may be a few years before kinetic action is taken, China has already begun to attack Taiwan in cyberspace as part of what is known as gray-zone action. Taiwan officials estimate the small island receives an estimated 20 million to 40 million attacks every month.
“They’re under relentless cyber threat,” Richard Fontaine, CEO for the Center for a New American Security, said. “Taiwan is a digital country; their critical infrastructures are highly digitized,” he added.
