The president of the Centre for New American Security, Richard Fontaine, said the meeting between the two leaders had not necessarily bridged differences between the US and Germany. “But the tone was very different,” he said. “President Trump seemed to reserve a special feeling of grievance for Germany, seeing it as a major NATO economy shirking its defence responsibilities."
