Bob Butler Joins CNAS as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow

The Center for a New American
Security (CNAS) is pleased to announce that Bob Butler, former Deputy Assistant
Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, has joined CNAS as a Non-Resident Senior
Fellow. Mr. Butler's research at CNAS will focus on cyber security, cyber
warfare and issues related to U.S. national security in the
information age. Mr. Butler brings to CNAS a breadth of experience
and perspectives on cyber policy, having advised government, military and
private sector leaders on responding to America's cyber security challenges.



Mr. Butler served as the first deputy assistant secretary of defense for cyber
and space policy from 2009 to 2010 and as deputy assistant secretary of defense
for cyber policy from 2010 to 2011. In this capacity, he was the principal
advisor to the secretary of defense and other defense leaders on cyber strategy
and policy. Currently, Mr. Butler serves as Vice President of Government
Strategies for IO, a privately held data center provider. Mr. Butler has a
distinguished career in information technology, intelligence and national
security which spans 32 years of both public and private sector experiences. He
is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and a former member of the Defense
Department's senior executive service. He was recently appointed as the
chairman of the Texas State Cyber Security, Education and Economic Development
Council.
