CNAS Releases Major Report on U.S.-China Relationship
WASHINGTON, D.C., SEPTEMBER 22, 2009 - The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is pleased to announce the release of a major report on the U.S.-China relationship: China’s Arrival: A Strategic Framework for a Global Relationship. The report, authored by Ambassador Linton Brooks, Dr. Joshua Busby, Abraham Denmark, Lindsey Ford, Dr. Michael Green, Dr. G. John Ikenberry, Robert Kaplan, Nirav Patel, Daniel Twining, and Dr. Richard Weitz, takes into account the global significance of China’s rise, examines the ever expanding U.S.-China relationship, and proposes a strategy for future engagement. The report raises a number of pertinent issues in the U.S.-China relationship, including energy security and climate change, China’s emerging naval strategy, nuclear proliferation and arms control, and offers practical recommendations to Washington policymakers for the future of U.S.-China relations.
CNAS will launch the report at an event this Thursday, September 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in the Willard Intercontinental Hotel’s Grand Ballroom. The Honorable James Steinberg, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and leading Washington decision-maker on Asia policy, will deliver the keynote address on the Obama Administration’s vision for the future of the U.S.-China relationship. In addition, several leading Asia experts will conduct a panel discussion on the report, including Dr. Patrick Cronin, Director of the Institute for National Strategic Studies at the National Defense University; Abraham Denmark, Fellow at CNAS; Dr. Michael Green, Associate Professor of International Relations at Georgetown University and Japan Chair at CSIS; and Robert Kaplan, Senior Fellow at CNAS.
