CNAS Welcomes Adham Sahloul and Daniel Schneiderman as Adjunct Senior Fellows

Washington, February 25, 2025 — The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is pleased to welcome Adham Sahloul and Daniel Schneiderman as adjunct senior fellows with the Middle East Security Program.

“Adham and Daniel bring a wealth of national security experience from across the U.S. interagency that significantly strengthens the Center,” said Jonathan Lord, senior fellow and director of the Middle East Security Program at CNAS. “Their insights and expertise will help shape the program’s research and inform critical policy discussions on the Middle East in this protracted period of risk and opportunity for the United States.”

Adham Z. Sahloul served as a special advisor in the Biden-Harris administration at both the Department of Defense and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). At USAID, he worked in the Office of Policy under Administrator Samantha Power, focusing on China and strategic competition. At the Department of Defense, he served as a special assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and advised Secretary Austin’s Middle East Crisis Cell. Sahloul is an officer in the United States Navy Reserve and has deployed in support of maritime security operations in the CENTCOM area of responsibility. He is also a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His writings have appeared in Foreign Affairs, War on the Rocks, Lawfare, Axios, and more.

Daniel Schneiderman previously served as the senior coordinator for Afghanistan at the Department of Defense, reporting to and directly advising the under secretary of defense for policy on all Afghanistan-related matters. Before that, he was the deputy special representative for Guantanamo affairs at the Department of State. He has also held senior roles at the International Crisis Group, the National Security Council, and the Department of State’s Bureau of Counterterrorism. Schneiderman has been recognized with the Department of State’s Superior Honor and Meritorious Honor awards for his work.
