John Nagl Named to QDR Independent Panel
The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is pleased to announce that its President, Dr. John Nagl, has been named to the independent panel to review the Department of Defense’s 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR).
The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is pleased to announce that its President, Dr. John Nagl, has been named to the independent panel to review the Department of Defense’s 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR).
According to the Department of Defense, "the bipartisan panel is required to submit a report by July 2010 to Congress assessing the QDR, its recommendations, stated and implied assumptions, and any vulnerabilities of the strategy and force structure underlying the report."
As stated on the DOD website, "the QDR will set a long-term course for DOD as it assesses the threats and challenges that the nation faces and re-balances DOD's strategies, capabilities, and forces to address today's conflicts and tomorrow's threats."

Dr. John Nagl is also a member of the Defense Policy Board, a Visiting Professor in the War Studies Department at Kings College of London, a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies. Dr. Nagl is the author of Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam and was on the writing team that produced the U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual.
