New CNAS Report: "Greater San Antonio Military & Veteran Family Needs Assessment"
Washington, November 10, 2022—Today, the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) released a new report, "Greater San Antonio Military & Veteran Family Needs Assessment," from authors Katherine Kuzminski, senior fellow and director of the Military, Veterans, and Society (MVS) Program; Nathalie Grogan, former MVS research associate; and Celina Pouchet, former MVS intern.
The report takes a holistic look at the lives of the military community—including military personnel, veterans, and their families—in Greater San Antonio. The report serves as the culmination of a vast body of original research conducted over a year-long study.
In the report, the authors concentrate on five interconnected life domains:
health, housing, financial stability, education, and social support. The authors draw from original data to identify challenges and make recommendations for local government, academic institutions, and military and veteran-serving organizations about how to best serve the San Antonio military community across these five domains.
"Greater San Antonio is a dynamic region for military service members, veterans, and their families," said Katherine Kuzminski. "The robust network of services and resources in the city and surrounding communities provide models for other cities, particularly those with a growing population of young veterans and their families. However, even in a city that actively focuses on welcoming and meeting the needs of service members, veterans, and their families, challenges still exist. The needs assessment provided an opportunity to illuminate what is working well, and where the local government, philanthropic, and service provider communities can focus their efforts to meet persistent needs."
