The Marlboro Marine, Revisited
Remember the iconic photograph of the Marine in Fallujah smoking a Marlboro cigarette? The one that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize? Boy, has the Observer got one hell of a story in today's paper, written by the man who snapped the picture and now wonders if he is somehow responsible for the woe that has befallen Lance Corporal James Blake Miller since this photograph made them both famous. People love to bash the media for not reporting good news or for not appreciating the sacrifices of our fighting men and women, but there are journalists out there like Luis Sinco who will never be able to let go of Iraq -- and the men with whom he experienced it -- any more than the most battle-scarred Marine. Holy cow, this is one moving piece of journalism.
