Blinken swoops into Iraq to try and stifle a broader Mideast conflict
In an unannounced trip, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken went to Iraq to meet with Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. His aim was to put a stop to drone and rocket attacks on US bases by Iraqi militias that are backed by Iran. Eager to tamp it down early, he urged the Iraqi prime minister to press the militias to stop and made it clear that the US would protect its personnel and interests at the bases under attack. The World's Marco Werman talks with Jonathan Lord, a former political analyst and Iraq country director at the US Department of Defense, about Sudani's leverage over these militias
