Left unchecked, China’s push to deploy critical digital infrastructure worldwide, from next-generation telecommunications networks to subsea cables, data centers, and AI, could have far-reaching consequences for U.S. interests. The Tech Program conducts research to clarify the goals, means, and effectiveness of China’s Digital Silk Road and offer a roadmap for the U.S. to offer a more compelling and coherent alternative drawing on comparative advantages, such as Low Earth Orbit satellites, cloud computing, and AI.
